Software

We offer several links to third-party software that may assist you in downloading, converting, and viewing GIS data. These resources are provided free of charge for your benefit. Jackson County cannot assume responsibility for their functionality, nor can our staff troubleshoot problems you may have installing or configuring these tools on your system. We highly recommend contacting the software vendor directly through the websites provided if you need any assistance.

Datasets

We offer a collection of GIS datasets for Jackson County in ESRI Shapefile format. These data are made available for free and are compiled by Jackson County from a variety of sources. Jackson County cannot accept responsibility for errors, omissions, or positional accuracy. There are no warranties, expressed or implied.

Projections
All Jackson County geospatial data, both raster (aerial photos) and vector (shapefiles) are in the Oregon State Plane South Zone projection. We use North American Datum (NAD) 1983/91 and our units of measurement is International Feet.

Aerial Photos

We offer color aerials in Mr Sid format. The flight dates are from Jun to Oct of 2001. The data is available in sections and townships.

Emergency Response Maps

We offer a collection of maps in PDF format specifically for Emergency Responders. Here you will find Fire Maps for the entire county.

ArcGIS Extensions and Code

Jackson County GIS Services has written several DLLs to be used with ArcGIS v8.3.
These ArcGIS extensions include the following: Area of Interest, Print a Map, Taxlot Search and Create a Data Frame. Below is the zip file containing all of the Visual Basic 6 code, plus the compiled DLLs. You are welcome to download and use for your own benefit.

Software

	AlternaTIFF is a web browser add-on (ActiveX control or plug-in) that displays most of the common types of TIFF image files. It works in most web browsers for 32-bit versions of Windows (95, 98, ME, NT4, 2000, XP, Vista, etc.). Download: Alternatiff More info:    Alternatiff website
	ArcExplorer can be used to view SmartMap shapefiles. It is a free GIS Data Viewer from ESRI. Download: Arc Explorer More info:    Arc Explorer website
	Rock Ware has developed a piece of software that will convert ArcView/ESRI shape files to AutoCAD DXF and DWG formats. The software allows shape files to be read by nearly all CAD software. 	LizardTech offers a free viewer for the County's aerial photos. This viewer is called GeoExpress View. With GeoExpress View you can use GeoExpress View to view the aerial photos in a MrSID format which are available on our FTP site. More info:    GeoExpress View website
	Safe's Feature Manipulation Engine (FME) enables you to convert Shapefiles to DXF/DWG as well as other formats. A free trial version of FME is available to download from their website. More info:    Safe FME website
	WS FTP You will need this or similar software to download data such as aerial photos from our FTP site. The download file contains a 30-day evaluation version of WS_FTP. Download: WS_FTP More info:    WS_FTP website

Aerial Photo Dates	These are the dates that the aerial photos were taken.
Mr Sid Aerial Photos	These are the MrSid color aerial photos of the entire County. The images are in MrSid format. There is a SID for each TOWNSHIP. Each photo is 36 square miles. The .sid file is the aerial photo in a MrSID format. The .sdw file is the real world coordinates. This file is only necessary if you are planning to use the aerial photo in a GIS software package. To view the .sdw file, you need to also download the free MrSID viewer.	Download Photos
Tiff Aerial Photos	These are the Tiff color aerial photos of the entire County. The images are in Tiff format. There is a Tiff for each SECTION. The tiff file sizes are considerably larger than the MrSid images. The .tif file is the aerial photo in a tiff format. The .tfw file is the real world coordinates.
